Thies mounting to the 2.4 boom?

Recommended Posts

I would like to install Thies First Class on the 50m 10" NRG tower. Since Thies requires dia 33 mm tube and the 2.4m boom is dia 13 mm, is it possible just to make a small adapter 13-33 and attach Thies on the 2.4 m boom for NRG 40C? Is that boom strong enough to support the Thies and the small adapter (say 33X100 mm)?

Dear Sreten.

What you're trying to do, I have already done it my self, and I'm not very happy with results. It seems to work the use of an adapter, but with strong winds or very high gusts the boom starts to oscilate, and that my friend does affect the reading of the sensor. So, what we do is to construct our own boom, using 1/2" galvanized steel pipes, with semi-spherical ring brackets welded to the structure, and for the installation of the sensor we use 1" steel galvanized pipe, like the ones used in plumbing, also welded to te structure (1/2" pipe). If you want, write me, so i can send pictures of the boom, we designed.
